The lull of sleep is calling to the sleeper who negotiates the edges of her dreams
Before the Sleeper Wakes is a dance piece choreographed by Josephine Mozina. It draws inspiration from the film Sunset Boulevard (1950). Beginning in darkness, the piece follows a sleeper as she drifts through the stages of sleep and into a precarious dreamscape. Through enveloping movement, rising and falling rhythms, and tightrope-like imagery, the work explores the fragile boundary between dreaming and wakefulness, where the subconscious takes control and every step carries consequence.
